Here at BBN Sports we like to focus on some things that generally go unnoticed and not talked about nearly as much. Obviously the games are the most important thing but it's the small things that make for interesting chatter leading up to the big games. I was even unaware of this until discussing the tournament with my BBN Sports cohort. The topic? UK having a huge advantage by being the first team to advance to the Sweet 16.
First of all, the NCAA must have been on crack when they decided the regions. UK, Ohio State, Syracuse, and North Carolina as the top 4 seeds in one region? Really? Way to spread that money to different venues. Of course this is all based on the assumption that the 4 seeds advance to Newark for this weekends' set of games. Needless to say, the fan support of these 4 programs are some of the best in all of sports so you know the Newark/NYC area will be hopping with fans. Let's take a look at the 4 teams and what they will potentially bring to the 18,000 seat Prudential Center this weekend.
#1 Ohio State- They are the top ranked team in America. They are the best team in America, and they have a fan base that will travel. Of course they are a football school but where there is a chance for great success, such a large fan base will travel.
#2 North Carolina- While I feel they have one of the most bandwagon fan bases in America (The Jordan Factor), they still are loaded with tradition and will not hesitate to travel. Of course, if they should knock off Washington, the baby blue faithful will venture North. Of course, with UNC having the longest distance, I feel they will have the smallest amount of fans albeit still a nice turnout.
#3 Syracuse- Newark is basically New York City and Syracuse is in the state of New York. For a program that only trails UK in the attendance rankings each year, you know they are passionate. Should they hold off 11 seed Marquette, look for the Orange faithful to be on the horn trying their hardest to book their trips.
#4 Kentucky- The BBN needs no introduction. The fact is, we travel everywhere. If UK was playing Pineville High School in Juneau, Alaska, we would take a thousand fans. We travel, we travel better than anyone, and we are the greatest tradition in college basketball. That's all that needs to be said.
As for the topic at hand, this greatly benefits UK in so many ways. Many fans wait until the games are played in order to buy their tickets and make their hotel reservations. Obviously as I have pointed out, we are the best traveling fans in America so you know the BBN will do their best to travel. The other thing is that now that we have advanced, you know that UK fans have bombarded Stub Hub and Ebay for the tickets. Look for a Big Blue event this weekend in Newark, NJ.
If I had my guess, I would just like to say to Ohio State, George Mason, Syracuse, Marquette, North Carolina, or Washington to get ready because it's going to be a road game for you all. The BBN will be there in full force and ready to rock. Can I get a Leggggoooooo?
